YouTurn : Ma.Teresa L. Sagun

Genre of your graphic illustration:  I do most realistic portraits/drawings, but I can also do vectors and digital paint.
Tell me something about yourself that people don't know:
I stop attending college  this school year because of multiple personal reasons, but I do not regret choosing staying at home for now.
I can honestly say that my skills got more better  here at home, more than attending class at school hahaha.
I do like reading books ,and even though I'm not that fit I really like getting involved in sports.

What is your current state of mind before we continue with the interview?
just got home right now, and I'm actually planning to play Dota 2, just felt like killing some noob today, just kidding.

When and how did you get your start in the industry?
well I started got interested on anime first, and then few of my classmates know how to draw this beautiful figures of anime. kind of suck because I really don't know how to draw that time ( 2nd yr HS ) , I save up my lunch money so I could buy some "how to draw manga ".
I don't even know how to use colors ,so I stick on black and white portraits. then I start got interested on playing this game which have this drawing forum, and that's how I got to know digital paint.

Did you go to school to study this genre?
since I'm in a field of Digital arts, it helps me enhance my skills and discover more of medium that can boost more of my techniques .

How did you discover your passion for art?
well I got curious on how the hell my friend do that kind of drawing (anime).  I enjoyed always watching them creating visuals. then I give it a shot to do the same, I save up money so i can buy some how to draw manga, watched a lot of tutorials at youtube.
while doing so, I find myself liking realistic portrait drawing more than anime

Was it always something you knew you wanted to do?
not really ,when I was young my dream was to be part of astronomical field, or maybe be a historian. it never occur to me to be an artist

How do you define graphic design?
graphic design or what they call is visual communication, helps us combine different style of art that delivers information

How did you find your style? Has it changed since you started?
of course it will change, when you do something you really like, you don't get to do it at the same way forever, you get better and better at it. at first I was comfortable with using charcoal pencils then I developed myself using multiple colors to make them more realistic. But now I use colored ballpoints combined with color pencils to make it more graphic and satisfying, I'm still trying out different mediums that can contribute on enhancing my skills

What was your first ever illustration of, do you still have it, if not where is it?

This is sasuke of naruto

Where do you get your ideas/inspiration from?
firstly my grandfather, who is a badass when it comes to painting ( i cant do painting hahahahha sad), then heather rooney and a lot more.

How did illustration/graphic design change your life?
well it change my perspective about lots of things, it makes me more open minded  And it helps me handle my patience very well.

What are the pros and cons of being a graphic illustrator?
you get to create what you always imagine
you have fun while doing so
you never get bored, because just a pencil and a piece of paper can make you busy and satisfied
you have lots of opportunities
Expectation of other people, since they know you are a graphic artisit, they automatically assume that you are that so good.
that" we know each other so long" discount or request

If you weren't a graphic artist/illustrator or a multimedia artist, what would you want to be? Why?
As i mention before, I wanted to be part of astronomical field or maybe historian, it always intrigues me what is out there, where ,when, why and how things work.

What legacy will you leave?
I really don't have any idea, maybe make people realize that dying alone is not a bad idea, as you get to enjoy your life the way you wanted to hahahah :))

How do you see yourself 20 or 30 yrs from now?
well maybe, I'm still a freelance artist but working with several huge clients across the world.

Here some of the art works of Ma.Teresa L. Sagun

Sean O'Pry

Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter)

Krizele Ryanne Tabing

Your #1 art tip or words of wisdom.
never lose hope, never lose faith. everything is going to be alright, and always believe in yourself .
don't let other people define who you really are.
